In celebration of the first ever UK Social Saturday this weekend, each day this week we are running a series of case studies to showcase different social enterprises operating in Leicester.
Social Saturday is a new campaign to drive awareness of social enterprise and the impact that they have on the community around them.
Today’s study is of local legal firm, Kinetic Law Services.
Kinetic Law Services (KLS) was set up in 2010 and holds the distinction of being amongst the select few law firms in the country to operate under the co-operative business model.
KLS’s highly trained, professional staff provide legal advice and assistance in family, employment and equality law and also provides training and mentoring services in these areas to businesses and voluntary sector organisations.
All KLS’s legal services are tailor-made to suit the needs of the individual client as the company understands that some clients want complete control over their law case with input from a lawyer only at specific times while other clients prefer to hand over control of their case to their lawyer.
Kinetic Law Services contacted CASE for assistance as they wished to find a more co-operative way of working. CASE assisted Kinetic Law Services to establish their business as a co-operative consortium. KLS received advice and support from CASE in a variety of different business areas including business planning; growth and development; human resources and developing links with other professionals. This advice was instrumental in enabling KLS to widen membership of the business to other legal professionals interested in a flexible approach to working that didn’t involve become tied to a traditional high-street firm.
KLS are proud to be a part of the successful social enterprise sector in the UK and credit the flexibility of being their own bosses as a major advantage of running their own social business.
Social Saturday takes place on Saturday 13th September 2014. Choose Social Saturday as your day to buy from a local business that puts people and planet first. Visit www.socialsaturday.org.uk for more information.
