Co-operatives UK is calling on co-operative members and supporters to get their thumbs at the ready to download the UK co-operative sector’s first mobile app in the run up to Co-operatives Fortnight 2012.
The new app, ’Co-operate’, makes it easy for people to find co-operatives and mutuals across the UK. Whether they need food or phones, electricity or banking, Co-operate allows customers to download a better world onto their mobile phone.
12 noon on 19 June is the time to put in your diary as Co-operatives UK is calling for a mass act of co-operation to download the app, in order to push it up the rankings and bring co-operatives to a wider audience.
The International Year of Co-operatives aims to make co-operatives more visible. With smartphones accounting for around half of all mobile phones, Co-operate offers the opportunity to put co-operatives and mutuals into the hands of people across the UK. It will benefit co-operatives and mutuals by enabling them to promote their business and make it easier for people – and other organisations and businesses – to move their money to spend it with them.
Co-operate was developed by Co-operatives UK, who will be making the app available for use by the wider international co-operative movement. The National Co-operative Business Association in the United States has committed to launch the US version of the application on the same day.
There will be a similar function available online for those without a smartphone, although it will not have all the ease of having it on mobile.
