The gap between rich and poor is at its highest since records began. One half of the UK population now owns just one percent of the wealth. A generation ago, they had twelve per cent.
Unlike bankers’ bonuses, giving employees, consumers and residents a wider share of ownership and wealth is good for society and the economy.
We can help change this. Co-operatives Fortnight – 25 June 9 July 2011 – aims to show how co-operatives can help narrow the gap by giving everyone an equal say in decisions and share in the profits.
Co-operatives Fortnight is the UK co-operative sector’s national campaign. It is the perfect opportunity to showcase how co-operatives are a way of doing business where profits, wealth and ownership are shared.
