The South Leicestershire Care Co-operative (SLCC) was incorporated as a limited company and Co-operative on 15th February 2010 and began to trade in May. They were assisted to establish by the Co-operative and Social Enterprise Development Agency (CaSE-da) who provided guidance, support, training and legal services to the business under the Co-operative Enterprise Hub programme.
South Leicestershire Care Co-operative aims to combine the needs of a successful business with specific social aims to create an organisation that will play a pivotal role in developing and delivering high quality care at home for the communities of South Leicestershire and beyond.
As a user-led organisation South Leicestershire Care Co-operative aims to bring a new kind of domiciliary care service to the local community, along with training and employment opportunities. The business will be financed via direct payments and will allow users and carers to decide the direction of the business and the purpose and quality of the care.
A group of direct payment users and personal care assistants came together to form a board in December 2009 and received training from CaSE-da on a range of topics including the principles and practice of co-operatives, business management and choosing legal structures.
The group then proceeded to scour the local area for premises and obtained seed corn funding to enable the company to start trading. The Chair, Phil Smalley himself a recipient of direct payments says, “Here at SLCC we specialise in person- centred care. We are a user led company new to the market and our aim is to promote and deliver high quality domiciliary care services to our local communities. We know independence is important to people and our aim is to support individuals to remain and regain their independence.”
“Just as every client is unique so is every individual care package and we are taking time to ensure that we can deliver the quality services local people want, when they want them. To do this we have identified a team of experienced dedicated personal assistants who are ready to meet the challenges of personalisation and be innovative and caring when developing and delivering the high quality of service required of us”.
SLCC are developing a web site at www.slccltd.co.uk where you will soon be able to see further details of their portfolio of services and terms and conditions of trade
